Description Life zones and habitat: Subalpine and alpine; rocky areas, hillsides.
Plant: Short-stemmed perennial 2 to 4 inches tall at high altitudes.
Leaves: Spatulate to narrowly oblanceolate or linear, may have a few teeth along edges edges; some small hairs on upper leaf surface.
Inflorescence: Clusters of small flowers, 1/2-inch across with 4 petals that are usually yellow, rarely lavender.
