Description Life zones and habitat: Plains to montane; open areas, disturbed areas, roadsides.
Plant: Erect, single or branched annual 7 to 30 inches tall, bright green, hairless with an unpleasant odor when bruised.
Leaves: Alternate leaves; ovate basal leaves wither early, oblong middle and upper leaves.
Inflorescence: Very small white flowers initially in a small, flat cluster at the top of the stem, four sepals, four white petals, six stamens.
Fruit: Large numbers of flat seed pods on slender, upward curving stalks, bright green to yellowish.
