Description Life Zones and Habitat: Widespread including foothills and montane life zones. Hillsides open areas.
Plant: Grayish, erect perennial 8 to 24 inches tall with multiple stems.
Leaves: Large, hairy, triangular basal leaves 8 to 20 inches long.
Inflorescence: Single showy composite flower head on each stem, each with long yellowish tubular disc florets, surrounded by bright yellow ray flowers (petals); hairy involucres.
