Description Life zones and habitat: Foothills and montane; openings, disturbed areas.
Plant: Erect perennial 1 to 3 feet tall; smooth, grayish-green stems.
Leaves: Pale green, soft, linear and lanceolate.
Inflorescence: 1-inch long yellow flowers with 5 fused petals (2 upper lobes and 3 lower), an orange bearded throat, and a yellow spur, flowers densely clustered in racemes (spikes).
