Description Life zones and habitat: Montane and subalpine; woodlands.
Plant: Large shrub, 3 to 6 feet tall.
Leaves: Opposite, elliptic to elliptic-ovate with pointed tips, dark green and somewhat hairy.
Inflorescence: Bell-shaped pairs of yellow or yellowish red flowers hanging downward beneath purplish-red bracts.
Fruit: Shiney pairs of purple-black berries, unpleasant taste.
