Description Life zones and habitat: Plains to montane (4000 to 9800); sandy gravelly or clay soils on flats, slopes and outcrops in grasslands, brushlands, and conifer woodlands.
Plant: Usually spreading, mat-forming perennial with aerial flowering stems 2 to 8 inches tall.
Leaves: Basal, oblanceolate to elliptic leaves, 1/4 to 1-1/4 inches long and 1/4 to 5/8-inch wide; grayish lower surface covered with short, matted hairs (tomentose), greenish upper has tufts of woolly hairs (floccose).
Inflorescence: Umbels branched 1 to 3 times, each with clusters of tiny golden yellow flowers; umbels subtended by 3 to 8 spreading leaf-like bracts; each flower less than 1/4-inch across with densely hairy tepals and protruding stamens; involucre bell-shaped with .
Bloom Period: June to October.
