Description Life zones and habitat: Plains to montane (3500 to 9500 ft.); gravely or sandy soils in open plains, rocky hillsides, along roadsides and railroads, and in waste ground.
Plant: Erect to reclining annual 8 to 24 inches tall; thin slender stems covered with fine, woolly hairs.
Leaves: Linear-lanceolate to lanceolate-elliptic leaves clustered near base or bottom 1/3 of stem, 1 to 3 inches long, covered with fine woolly hairs.
Inflorescence: Spikes with spiral clusters of small, white woolly flowers along the stem; cone-shaped perianth with pointed tip, no petals.
Bloom Period: July to September.
