Description Life zones and habitat: Widespread distribution in boreal and montane zones of higher northern latitudes of North America and Asia; in the US, found as far south as Colorado Rockies; found on conifer and hardwood bark, rarely on rock.
General: Thallus (the main, vegetative part of the lichen) is foliage-like, with lobes up to about 2-1/2 inches across, white, gray to greenish gray, smooth above and flat to convex underneath.
