Description |
Life zones and habitat: Foothills to subalpine (5500 to 11000 ft.); dry soils in meadows and open woodlands.
Plant: Clump-forming perennial with stems leaning outward in all directions, 6 to 28 inches long. Leaves: No basal leaves; stem leaves are alternate, linear to lanceolate or oblong, 3/4 to 2-3/8 inches long, sessile; upper surface with appressed hairs, lower surface and edges with spreading hairs. Inflorescence: Bright yellow trumpet-shaped, tubular flowers 1/2-inch or less long in clusters of a few blossoms at stem and branch tips; funnel-shaped corolla tube with 5 broad, rounded, flaring lobes (petals) with irregular edges; sparsely hairy calyx is about half as long as the corolla tube and deeply divided into five narrow lobes.
