Description |
Life Zones and Habitat: Montane to alpine (8000 to 14000 ft.); shady forests, streamsides, boggy areas. Plant: Short, erect perennial 2 to 4 inches tall, delicate leafless stem. Leaves: Up to 8 leaves in a basal rosette with ovate, elliptic to obovate shape and 1/3 to 1-1/2 inches long with serrate or crenate edges; short petioles. Inflorescence: Single, nodding, saucer-shaped flower, 1-inch across with 5 spreading, white, waxy petals; stamens with yellow to brownish anthers; prominent green bulbous ovary and green protruding style with 5-lobed stigma; sepals 5/8 to 1 inch long with ciliate edges.
