Description |
Life zones and habitat: Foothills to subalpine (5500 to 11500 ft.); dry, sany or gravelly soils in meadows, pastures, sagebrush areas and woodlands. Plant: Erect annual up to 20 inches tall; jointed, slender stems, simple or branching from the base, green to brownish. Leaves: Alternate, narrow linear to oblong or oblanceolate blades to nearly 2 inches long, the upper leaves much smaller, 1/3-inch or so long; margins are entire. Inflorescence: Small flowers, single or in clusters of 2 to 4, borne in the leaf axils; blossoms have 4 ot 5 tepals that are whitish with green or brownish veins; 3 to 8 stamens.
