Description Life zones and habitat: Plains and foothills (3500 to 6000 ft.); sandy and rocky soils in prairies, scrublands, pinyon-juniper and oak woodlands.
Plant: Perennial with several woody stems, 4 to 6 inches tall; much-branched near the base; stems and leaves with dense, spreading long hairs.
Leaves: Alternate oblong, narrowly oblanceolate, or narrowly lanceolate blades, 3/8 to 7/8-inches long with entire margins.
Inflorescence: Solitary, small, purple, blue or lavender flowers, 1/3 to almost 1/2-inch in diameter arising from leaf axils; corolla is nearly bell-shaped; 5 narrowly lanceolate, hairy sepals below.
Bloom Period: June to August.
