Description |
Life zones and habitat: Foothills to subalpine (5500 to 10500); moist or dry ground, open to lightly wooded and disturbed areas.
Plant: Often inconspicuous, much-branched, open annual, 2 to 20 inches tall, red stems. Plants in the images below are about 6 to 8 inches tall. Leaves: Narrow, linear to oblong stem leaves up to 2-3/8 inches long, becoming smaller upward. Inflorescence: Very small, inconspicuous flowers, about 1/4-inch across with 4 white petals with yellowish spot at the base and 4 reflexed sepals beneath; white protruding stamens and style with white to yellowish anthers and stigma.
